Airport Arts Jury Seeks New Round of
Display Proposals from Local Artists
Due Date is March 1, 2013
Barnstable Municipal Airport's Arts Jury is seeking a new round of proposals from local artists who would like to display examples of their work at the new passenger terminal in Hyannis. The deadline for submissions is March 1, and the chosen works will be exhibited beginning in May.
An updated request for qualifications has been issued by the Town of Barnstable and posted on the airport's website: www.town.barnstable.ma.us/airport.
"This time around," said Airport Commission Vice Chairman Donald Megathlin, "the jury is especially interested in proposals for mobiles and sculpture. Much of the exhibit space at the terminal lends itself better to larger works of art," he explained. "The jury would like to show works that are appropriate for long-distance viewing."
Once again, the airport will partner with the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. "The first year of exhibits at the airport has been very popular," said Arts Foundation Executive Director Kevin Howard. "Local artists have received terrific exposure, and several works have sold because of it."
Airport Manager Roland "Bud" Breault said the exhibits have lent a "Cape Cod sense of place" to the interior of the terminal.
The selected works will be insured by the Town of Barnstable, and contact information will be shown beside each work so potential buyers may follow up directly with the artist.
In addition to mobiles and sculpture, the arts jury is seeking proposals for works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, fabric, metal or bronze, glass (including stained glass), stone, clay, wood, collage, digital art and photography.
