Falmouth Artists Guild Receives Collaborative Arts Project Award

February 10, 2010
The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has announced the winners of the Third Annual Creative Community Awards. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Project award recipient is the Falmouth Artists Guild.

Created more than fifty years ago, the Falmouth Artists Guild is a non-profit organization providing a year-round roster of visual arts education and exhibition opportunities for students of all ages and abilities.  The Guild collaborates with Falmouth Volunteers in Public Schools and the art department at Lawrence Junior High to offer an art mentor program for at-risk students at the school.

The organization also initiated the ArtShare project, a community arts education program including partnerships with local schools and adult support agencies such as Fairwinds Clubhouse and CapeAbilities. ArtShare offers local K-12 students and adults with special needs opportunities for creative self-expression in a group environment through programs such as the Saori Weaving Initiative.

Margaret Van Sciver, President of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod said, “As the constraints on school and municipality budgets have put far too many arts programs at risk, the work of the Falmouth Artists Guild takes on an even more critical role. That such a creative and vital group of individuals can come together for the greater artistic good for the community is nothing short of extraordinary.”

The other 2010 Creative Community Awards honorees are: Royston Nash, Lifetime Achievement; Daniel Springer, Arts Educator of the Year; and the Senator Robert O’Leary, Community Leadership in Support of the Arts.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod supports, promotes, and celebrates the arts and culture of Cape Cod by creating a strong, stable, and diverse arts environment, and contributing to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.
