Royston Nash Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has announced the winners of the Third Annual Creative Community Awards. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Lifetime Achievement award recipient is Maestro Royston Nash.Royston Nash was born in England. At sixteen he joined the Royal Marines School of Music where he gained his L.R.A.M. in conducting. He was then awarded the Certificate of Merit for Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. In September 1970, following an illustrious career in the Royal Marines, Nash joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in London, England spending nine years as the Company musical director, overseeing dozens of productions of works by Gilbert and Sullivan.
Nash moved to New England in 1979, and in 1980 became the musical director and conductor for both the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and the Nashua Symphony Orchestra in Nashua, New Hampshire. Following his retirement in 2007, the CCSO Board of Trustees presented Nash with the title, in perpetuity, of Music Director Laureate of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra.
“The blessed success we currently enjoy at the CCSO is due to the strong foundation that was built by its beloved leader, Royston Nash,” said Mr. Nash’s successor, Maestro Jung-Ho Pak. “Maestro Nash enjoyed the rare success of building an orchestra that was cherished by its community. His kind and gentle style of leadership not only brought out the best from his musicians, but our staff and board as well. He has set a unique standard for any conductor to emulate, and he personifies the essence of the Cape and Islands.”

The other 2010 honorees are: Daniel Springer, Dennis-Yarmouth High School, Arts Educator of the Year; Senator Robert O’Leary, Community Leadership in Support of the Arts; and the Falmouth Artists Guild, Collaborative Arts Project of the Year.
