Faculty Biographies

Helen Addison is the owner of Addison Art Gallery in Orleans, known for its diverse representation of artists from across the United States and France with a fresh point of view. With her extensive experience in representing artists, Ms. Addison will be one of the participants in the "Get in a Gallery" presentation. She has also developed an extensive program of in-house and off-site events with partnering businesses and non-profit organizations. Ms. Addison also founded The Addison Agency, implementing three decades of professional, award-winning experience. The agency is dedicated to maximizing results for select businesses and non-profit organizations. In addition, she was the owner of Addison & Associates, an advertising and public relations agency with a diverse roster of profit, non-profit and governmental organizations. The agency earned over 70 international and regional awards for marketing creativity and effectiveness. Ms. Addison holds an MBA from Cornell University and a BA from Syracuse University.


Demetrius J. Atsalis is a State Representative, Second Barnstable District. Representative Atsalis will be participating in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". He holds a BA degree from Northeastern University and a Social Studies Certification from Salem State College. Representative Atsalis is the former Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Election Laws. Currently he serves on several committees including the House Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, and the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development. He is also involved with the Hyannis Civil Executive Board; Hyannis Waterfront Action Group; Barnstable Youth Baseball/Soccer.


Rhonda Jean Bernard is the president and co-owner of Cape Cod National Offset & Bindery Inc., a large format printer with in-house printing and bindery capabilities. Ms Bernard will be a participant in the "Get in Print" presentation. She is involved in all aspects of the printing business and has been working in the industry for 16 years. Her original expertise was in the pre-press area and when she gained experience in the various processes of commercial printing and bindery, she took over the troubled printing company and made it what it is today, along with the help of the original founder. The company offers services to clients nationwide and uses top of the line equipment to produce high quality printed materials.


Chris Blood is the owner of Sonic Trout, an audio production company on Cape Cod. Mr. Blood will be participating in the "Get a Gig" presentation. He has extensive live recording and broadcast experience. For more than 20 years, Mr. Blood toured with bands as an audio engineer throughout the US and Canada. He toured with many artists, including Patty Larkin, Tito Puente, The Parkington Sisters, Kami Lyle, Chandler Travis, Cape Cod Opera, and many others. In addition, he provided remote broadcast support for WOMR in Provincetown, maintained all equipment at Dune Recording Eastham, and supervised mastering sessions at Trodd Nossel Studios in Wallingford, CT. Mr. Blood also has many years of experience in the computer industry as an independent consultant involved in system administration and web development.


Adam Caress is Booking Agent and Talent Buyer for Tommy Doyle's Irish Pub & Restaurant, a popular pub restaurant with live entertainment. Mr. Caress will be participating in the "Get a Gig" presentation. He currently books entertainment for Tommy Doyle's Hyannis and Tommy Doyle's Harvard Square. Prior to his current position, he was a booking agent for Nation of Sound, a northeast regional booking agency. Mr. Caress will also be an editor for MuleVariations.com, an online music magazine launching this fall.


Alison Collins is the Gallery Director at Tree's Place Gallery in Orleans, a nationally recognized gallery featuring some of Americas finest established and emerging artists. Ms. Collins will be participating in the "Get in a Gallery" presentation. In the last thirteen years Ms. Collins has co-curated over 150 exhibitions at Tree's Place including several off-site events. In 2004, she helped to coordinate a three-day event concerning the current state of representational painting and the future of the style and artwork. In 2007, she was invited to represent Tree's Place as an event panelist at the Oil Painters of America's 16th National Juried Exhibition in Fredicksburg, Texas. Ms. Collins holds a BA degree in Performing Arts from Emerson College.


Sarah Colvin is News Director at Cape Cod Broadcasting, which operates four radio station on Cape Cod. Ms. Colvin will be participating in the panel discussion "Reaching the Media". She began her radio career at Cape Cod Community Colleges 90.7 WKKL. She served as the News Director for that station from 1996-1997 and the Program Director from 1997-1998. In 2005, Sarah joined the Cape Cod Broadcasting team and has been bringing news and information to the Cape community ever since. She was named News Director in August of 2009. Sarah anchors the morning news on 99.9 WQRC and hosts a weekly public interest program, The Sunday Journal, which airs on all four of Cape Cod Broadcasting's stations.


Mary DeAngelis is a clothing designer and co-owner of Mary DeAngelis - Silk & Feathers in Provincetown. Ms. DeAngelis will be participating in the panel discussion on "Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business". She has been designing clothing for the past 19 years. She designs under her own label and sells her clothing in small boutiques around the country. Her retail store in Provincetown carries an exclusive line of casual and elegant Mary DeAngelis Company designs for women, as well as skin care products and cosmetics, shoes, and other accessories. Handmade in New England, Ms. DeAngelis designs clothing that is meant to deliver elegance, sophistication, comfort and quality to women.


Terry Duenas is the Executive Director of Cape Cod Community Media Center, a media education and technology resource on Cape Cod. Mr. Duenas will participate in the panel discussion "Reaching the Media". He has been involved in every aspect of operations at the Media Center serving as its Director of Operations for nine years and as Executive Director since 1999. Terry serves on the regional board of the Alliance of Community Media and as past president of the state chapter, Mass Access. He teaches numerous advanced production workshops and seminars throughout the state, region and the country and is currently an adjunct professor at Suffolk University. Mr. Duenas has been involved in broadcasting for over 35 years with a BS in Radio, Television and Film from Arizona State University and a Masters in Public Administration from Suffolk University.


Richard Fenuccio is a Registered Architect and President of Brown Lindquist Fenuccio & Raber Architects, Inc., an architectural firm providing comprehensive architectural and consulting services to a wide range of commercial, municipal and residential clients. Mr. Fenuccio will participate in the panel discussion on "Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business". Mr. Fenuccio received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University and founded his own general architectural practice in 1990 in Barnstable, MA. His experience includes serving as the Project Architect and Project Manager on numerous buildings for a wide range of public and private clients. As the current President, Mr. Fenuccio directs the firms overall marketing and strategic planning work, financial planning and client management while still serving as the Design Architect for numerous active projects. He is also a member of several local organizations including the YMCA Cape Cod, St. Francis Xavier Preparatory School, and the Hyannis Main St. Historic District Appeal Committee.


Clinton R. Flagg is a floral and garden consultant with a forty year background in horticulture. He is a certified master gardener and is involved in vintage garden restoration. Mr. Flagg will participate in the panel discussion on "Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business". Most recently Mr. Flagg owned a flower shop in Osterville called Vintage Flowers. His background also includes visual arts, display, and event planning. He received a horticultural education at the University of Connecticut. His work has been published in many magazines, including Martha Stewart Living, Cape Cod Life, Cape Cod Bride, House and Garden, and Colonial Home. He is currently writing two books, Mrs. Kennedy's Flowers and The Flower Fables of Laurel.


Mary Pat Flynn is a Barnstable County Commissioner. Ms. Flynn will participate in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". Ms. Flynn served on the Board of Selectmen in Falmouth from 1993-2002 and is currently on the board. She was a town meeting member for 20 years, a member and current Chair of Falmouth Economic Development and Industrial Corporation, and a member and former Chair of Cape Cod Economic Development Council. Ms. Flynn is also a member of the Coonamessett River Working Group, a former Chairman of the Falmouth Charter Review Committee, a former President of Historic Highfield, and was a member of the Falmouth Personnel Board. She holds a BSN from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and an MSN from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.


Jennifer Gaines is the Executive Director of the Woods Hole Historical Museum. Ms. Gaines will be discussing the "Woods Hole Historical Museum Draw Bridge Exhibit" as part of the "Unique and Creative Collaborations" presentations. As Executive Director of the museum, she is involved in all activities, including designing programs, writing articles, training docents, writing grant proposals, and designing exhibits. Ms. Gaines has degrees in literature, botany, and environmental education. Her background includes working in the public library before getting involved in the museum. She has also taught natural history to children.


Judith Goetz is the Director of News Operations for WXTK-FM, a Qantum of Cape Cod news radio station. Ms. Goetz will participate in the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". She has received a number of AP broadcasting awards, American Red Cross awards, and an AME-NE for a special report on homeowner's insurance and its effect on Cape and Island residents. Ms. Goetz is a graduate of the Putney School, Sweet Briar College and holds a Masters Degree in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University in Washington, D.C. Her background includes working as a production assistant and field producer for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer in Washington, D.C. She also held various positions in print, broadcast media and Capitol Hill before moving to Cape Cod in 2001.


Jennifer Junker is an artist on Cape Cod using a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, and multi-media. Ms. Junker will be discussing the "Woods Hole Historical Museum Draw Bridge Exhibit" as part of the "Unique and Creative Collaborations" presentations. She received her BA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989. Her work has been exhibited in the US and in Europe. Ms. Junker designed the Draw Bridge Exhibit for the Woods Hole Historical Museum. She gets much of her inspiration from nature, and teaches during the summer at the Children's School of Science. She also works part-time at the Cape and Islands NPR station.


Sheila Rafferty Lyons is a Barnstable County Commissioner. She will be participating in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". As a Commissioner, she is proud of Barnstable Countys accomplishments of working with the towns to identify which services can be more effectively and efficiently handled regionally, relieving them of increasing financial burdens. Prior to taking office as Commissioner in 2009, she served on the Assembly of Delegates as the Wellfleet Representative. Ms. Lyons holds a BA in Business Management and a Master of Social Work specializing in gerontology from the University of Maryland. She has worked extensively in the public sector as an outreach worker and community organizer and in the private sector, primarily in the long-term health care industry.


Simie Maryles is a painter and co-owner of Simie Maryles Gallery in Provincetown. The gallery represents traditional art by contemporary artists. Ms. Maryles will participate in the panel discussion "Successfully Running an Arts-based Business". She began her formal art training at The Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, France, then studied painting in New York at The Art Students' League of NY and Pratt Institute. Most notable in Ms. Maryles' painting is her use of light, both sunlight and lamplight, and her ability to evoke powerful emotions. In 1998 she and her husband opened their own gallery in Provincetown. Ms. Maryles' work has been included in numerous books published by Quarto Publishing of London, England, and North Light Books, USA. Her paintings are also in private and corporate collections throughout the US and in Europe.


Salley Mavor is a children's book illustrator known for her unique illustrations done in fabric relief. Ms. Mavor will be one of the participants in the "Get in Print" presentation. Her website, Wee Folk Studio, showcases her variety of unique creations, including books, note cards, and limited edition fabric dolls. Ms. Mavor attended the Rhode Island School of Design and started her career making fabric pins. She also designed sewing projects for magazines. To create her book illustrations, her original fabric relief pictures are photographed and used in the printed book. Her first book, The Way Home, was published in 1991 and since then she has illustrated 10 childrens books. The newest, Pocketful of Posies: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes, will be published in September by Houghton Mifflin.


Peter McMahon is Executive Director of the Cape Cod Modern House Trust, an organization created to promote the documentation and preservation of significant examples of Modernist architecture on the Outer Cape. Mr. McMahon founded the organization in 2007, and will be discussing the Cape Cod Modern House Trust as part of the "Unique and Creative Collaborations" presentations. He is also the Principal of PM Design in South Wellfleet, a firm which focuses on sustainable, modern architecture and restoration of mid-20th century buildings. Mr. McMahon, along with CCMHT's board and staff, has managed the restoration of the Kugel/Gips house, annual modern house tours, an artist/scholar residency and is co-authoring a book on the Cape's modern architectural legacy. He has lectured extensively on this topic.


Leslie Meier is the Cape Cod author of the Lucy Stone Mystery Series. Published by Kensington, the "cozy" series now totals 16 titles with Wicked Witch Murder due out in the fall. Ms. Meier will be one of the participants in the "Get in Print" presentation. She began writing in the 1980s and sold her first story to Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine in 1987. She also worked for various Cape Cod newspapers as a reporter and copyeditor. The first Lucy Stone mystery, Mail-Order Murder, was published by Viking in 1990. The series was subsequently picked up by Kensington and all of the books remain in print. Ms. Meier is a member of Sisters in Crime, a national organization dedicated to promoting women mystery writers, and a former president of the Cape Cod Writers Center. She graduated from William Smith College, and attended graduate courses at Bridgewater State College.


Carol Odell is an artist and co-owner of the Odell Studio Gallery in Chatham. The gallery presents a harmonious exhibit of contemporary paintings and prints of Carol Odell and the fine metalwork (jewelry, vessels and small sculpture) of Tom Odell. Ms. Odell will participate in the talk on "21 in Truro" as part of the "Unique and Creative Collaborations" presentations. Trained in painting and photography at the Boston Museum School, Ms. Odell worked in graphic arts and textile design before returning to painting full time in the mid 80's. She has taught workshops at Truro Center for the Arts, Cape Cod Art Association, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Ms. Odell has been a mentor to students in the Arts to Careers program and was a founder and volunteer in the Adventures in Art program in the Chatham Schools. She is an active member in the Printmakers of Cape Cod, New England Wax, the Monotype Guild of New England, and 21 in Truro.


State Senator Robert O'Leary has represented the Cape and Islands District in the Massachusetts Senate since he first ran in 2000. Senator O'Leary will be participating in the panel discussion on "Conversing with Your Legislators". He received his BS from Georgetown University, his MPA from Harvard University, and his PhD in American History from Tufts University. In addition to being a state legislator, Senator O'Leary is a college history professor and faculty member at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and a guest professor at Cape Cod Community College. He has also served as a Barnstable County Commissioner, and was a member of the Cape Cod Commission and the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Council. Senator O'Leary sits on a variety of committees and is chairman of the Joint Committee on Education. In addition, he is vice-chair of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Oversight. Senator O'Leary was also appointed to the Education Committee of the Council of State Governments Eastern Regional Conference. His priorities include education, energy, affordable housing, and the environment.


Matt Patrick is a State Representative, Third Barnstable District. Representative Patrick will be participating in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". Representative Patrick is a former Falmouth Selectman, environmental activist, and the former Executive Director of Self-Reliance Corporation, a non-profit organization dedicated to community self-reliance in energy, water and food. He holds a degree in fine arts from Upsala College and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana, Africa. He has also participated in community organizing. In 1988, Representative Patrick became co-chairman and treasurer of the Coalition for the Cape Cod Commission Act. He currently serves on several Committees, including House Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change, Joint Committee on Veteran and Federal Affairs, and Health Care Finance.


Suzanne Packer is an artist and arts administrator, known for her large still life paintings with strong composition and vibrant color. Her work can be viewed on her website. Ms. Packer will be speaking about "21 in Truro" as part of the "Unique and Creative Collaborations" presentation. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design, the Art Students League of New York City, and Harvard University. Ms. Packer is the founding director of the Cape Cod Museum of Art and a founder and co-chair of Women Creating, a multi-media exhibition celebrating the creative women of Cape Cod. She served on the staff of the Chatham Creative Arts Center as coordinator of The Festival of the Arts, a three-day nationally juried arts and crafts festival. Currently she is an invitational member of 21 In Truro and serves on the Board of Trustees of The Cultural Center of Cape Cod.


Sarah Peake is a State Representative, Fourth Barnstable District. Representative Peake will be participating in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". Representative Peake was formerly a member of the Provincetown Board of Selectmen and the Charter Enforcement Commission. She holds a JD degree from Pace University and an AB degree from Colgate University, with a background as an attorney in municipal law, real estate, and land use. Ms Peake currently serves on several committees, including the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development, the House Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures, and State Assets, and the House Committee Post-Audit and Oversight.


Jeff Perry is a State Representative, Fifth Barnstable District. Representative Perry will be participating in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". He holds a JD degree from New England School of Law and a BA degree from Curry College. Representative Perry serves on the Committees on Ethics, Education and Public Safety, Homeland Security, House Ways and Means Committee, and the Committee on State Administration. He also serves as the Governor's Appointee to the Juvenile Advisory Committee and holds a Legislative Appointment to the Corrections Advisory Committee. Representative Perry is also a partner in the Law Firm of Flannigan and Perry P.C. and is an Adjunct Professor at Cape Cod Community College.


Paul Pronovost is the editor of the Cape Cod Times, the Cape Cod Media Groups daily newspaper serving Cape Cod and the Islands. Mr. Pronovost will participate in the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". He is currently responsible for the content and presentation of information in all Cape Cod Media Group products and is part of the companys senior management team. Prior to coming to the Cape, he worked at several community newspapers in the Greater Boston area and is past president of the Massachusetts Press Association and state Sunshine Chairman for the Society of Professional Journalists. Mr. Pronovost holds a Masters in Public Administration from Suffolk University and a BA degree from Saint Anselm College. He currently serves on the board of advisors for the Salvation Army, Cape Cod Chapter and is a former board of director for the Community Leadership Institute of Cape Cod.


Chris Quidley is owner of Quidley & Company, known as one of the top galleries in the country for works of realism and impressionism by living artists from the US and Europe. Mr. Quidley will participate in the "Get in a Gallery" presentation. During college he began representing his father Peter's work, and later took on the work of several other professional artists. While working at Christie's in London, Mr. Quidley decided that the business side of art sales was his professional destiny. After college, he began to work as a private art consultant, and later worked for several galleries on the East Coast. In 2004 he founded Quidley & Company, and opened his first gallery on Nantucket. In 2008, Quidley opened a second location in Boston


Michael Rabideau is owner and publisher of Rabideau Publishing, which publishes several regional magazines including Cape Cod Magazine, Cape Cod Guide, South Shore Living, and Chatham Magazine. Mr. Rabideau will participate in the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". He founded Rabideau Publishing in 1999 after a successful career in newspaper publishing. Mr. Rabideau worked for Times Mirror, Media General and Ottaway Newspapers. Rabideau Publishing produces high-quality targeted subscriber driven magazines and websites that reach affluent, educated residents and second-homeowners from Provincetown to Boston.

Tony Raine is the General Manager of the Cape Cod Melody Tent, a famous 2300-seat concert venue in Hyannis, MA. Mr. Raine will participate in the "Get a Gig" presentation. He has more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality and entertainment business. As a college student, he started out as a disc jockey and also did event and concert planning and promotion. Mr. Raine has also organized and promoted fundraising concerts and events for the Cape and Islands United Way. In addition, he handles the production and talent booking for the annual WGBH March of Dimes telethon. Currently he also runs Whistling Dixie Tours, celebrating the musical heritage of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi, manages MusicTreks, a walking audio tour company for music lovers, and promotes the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation.

Laura Reckford is the Editor of The Barnstable Enterprise, a weekly newspaper serving the town of Barnstable. Ms. Reckford will participate in the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". She was formerly the managing editor of The Falmouth Enterprise and prior to that she was managing editor of Cape Cod Life magazine. Ms. Reckford also worked on the editorial staffs of Good Housekeeping Magazine and Entertainment Weekly in New York City. She was the chief author of the recent publication Arts & Artisans Trails of Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, a project of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, among other entities. For the past ten years, she has written the Frommer's Guide to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket and has been a contributor to numerous other Frommer's publications.


Dorothy Savarese is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, an independent community bank on Cape Cod. Ms. Savarese will be the moderator for the panel discussion on Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business. She received her MBA from Suffolk University. She joined Cape Cod Five in 1993 as a commercial lending officer and became president in 2005, after serving as Chief Operating Officer. Dorothy currently serves as Chairman of The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust. Other affiliations include serving on the boards of the Massachusetts Bankers Association, Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Community College, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.


Brian Shortsleeve is the President and Founder of Cape Cod Life, a publication firm producing  magazines focusing on the regional lifestyle of Cape Cod and the Islands. Mr. Shortsleeve will participate in the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". As Company Founder, Brian created the original concept and magazine, and has overseen all aspects of the business for over 30 years. Cape Cod Life publications produces Cape Cod Life, Nantucket Life, Martha's Vineyard Life, Cape Cod Home, and special annual editions. Prior to founding Cape Cod Life, he worked for Pritchard Publishing Company, which publishes trade magazines. Before Pritchard, he worked for Cahners Publishing in Boston. Mr. Shortsleeve graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA with a BA in English.


Mark Skala is the publisher of GateHouse Media, Cape and Islands region, producing several local publications on Cape Cod and the islands. Mr. Skala will be the moderator for the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". As publisher, he oversees all aspects of business operation on Cape Cod for GateHouse Media, which produces 8 weekly newspapers including the Cape Codder, The Register, The Nantucket Independent, Sandwich Broadsider, Bourne Courier, Falmouth Bulletin, Harwich Oracle, and the Provincetown Banner, as well as their 15 companion websites on www.wickedlocalcapecod.com. GateHouse also publishes several Pennysaver shoppers on Cape Cod. Mr. Skala has more than 25 years of experience in community publishing. He currently serves on the board of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.


David Still II is the Editor of The Barnstable Patriot, a weekly newspaper published in and for the town of Barnstable. Mr. Still will participate in the panel discussion on "Reaching the Media". Mr. Still started as the town reporter for The Barnstable Patriot in 1989 and has held the title of editor since 1992. He holds a BA in English/Communications from North Adams State College, now known as the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. During his 20 years at The Barnstable Patriot, the paper moved from private family to corporate ownership. It has been among his goals to maintain the local focus of the paper that has kept it vital since the first issue was published in 1830.


Sarah Jane Thornington is a portrait photographer and owner of The Studio by the Sea. Ms Thornington is an award-winning photographer, specializing in portraits on Cape Cod. She will participate in the panel discussion on "Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business". Ms. Thornington was formally trained at the Hallmark Institute of Photography and is currently working on her Masters degree through Professional Photographers of America. She currently serves as the President of the Professional Photographers of Cape Cod and also serves on the board of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. Other affiliations include Professional Photographers of America and Professional Photographers of New England, as well as the Hyannis Chamber of Commerce and the Hyannis Business Improvement District.


Mindy Todd is a Program Host on WCAI, the National Public Radio station for Cape Cod and the Islands. Ms. Todd will participate in the panel discussion "Reaching the Media". She hosts The Point, a lively and informative discussion on critical issues for Cape Cod & the Islands. Ms. Todds career has covered nearly all aspects of broadcasting. She has been a radio disc jockey, a traffic reporter,   a television news anchor and reporter, a program director, talk show host, and even a ski reporter. She has received numerous awards, most recently an Associated Press Award for Public Affairs and a National Public Radio News Directors Association award for best call-in program in the country. Mindy sits on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institutions Sea Grant Marine Outreach Guidance Group, Marine Biological Laboratories Falmouth Forum Fundraising Committee, the NOAH Telethon Steering Committee, and the Falmouth Fund.


Cleon Turner is a State Representative, First Barnstable District. Representative Turner will be participating in the panel discussion "Conversing with Your Legislators". He holds a JD degree from Suffolk University Law School and a BA degree from University of Maine, Portland. Representative Turners experience includes Selectman in the town of Dennis, and was also a police officer in the town of Dennis. He currently practices law and is a member of the Barnstable County Bar Association. He was former chairman of the Dennis Housing Authority and Dennis Democratic Town Committee. He also served on the Democratic State Committee. Representative Turner currently serves on several committees including The House Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change, The Joint Committee on Public Health, and the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight.


Christie Cardillo Velesig is an award winning professional artist and instructor, specializing in marine paintings. Ms. Velesig will participate in the talk on "21 in Truro" as part of the "Unique and Creative Collaborations" presentations. She is a member of The American Society of Marine Artists and has had numerous Museum and Gallery solo exhibitions and has consistently won awards in juried exhibitions.  She is past-president of the Cape Cod Art Association and co-founder of 21 in Truro.  Her work is in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, England and Australia. She is recognized for her unique ability to combine both contemporary and classical styles with her use of color and subject matter. Her concentration on color theory allows her to master a wonderful sense of light and distance in her paintings.


Coby Vincent is the Founder of Cape Cod Hip Hop & Jazz, providing dance classes in a diverse environment of dance styles, music, and technique. Mr. Vincent will participate in the panel discussion on "Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business". He has danced as a principal dancer for the Cape Cod Ballet Company and has danced for the Oregon State Ballet Company. Mr. Vincent has appeared in commercials for Aetna Insurance, Nintendo, and After School Specials on ABC. He was a contestant and winner for dance on Star Search and an actor on a skit for In Living Color. He has performed for Tony Tee's Dance Project in Japan, and has appeared as several Disney face characters in parades, shows and commercials.


Meryl V. Vujs is owner and director of Meryl's Music and Arts Center, where music and dance instruction is given to young children and their parents. Ms. Vujs will participate in the panel discussion "Successfully Running an Arts-Based Business". Her instructional centers have been a five-time winner of Cape Cod Life magazine's "Best Kids Activity" on both the upper and lower Cape. The classes teach parents and children how to make music together in an inspirational, fun environment. Ms. Vujs is a member of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, Childrens Music Network, Massachusetts Music Teachers Association, and The Cape and Islands Music Teacher Association.


Anita Walker is Executive Director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency promoting excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities. Ms. Walker will give the presentation called "Get State Arts Funding". Ms. Walker has raised the visibility of the creative economy as a driving force for growth and prosperity in Massachusetts. She is a leading member of the new Massachusetts Creative Economy Council, which is charged with fostering the growth of the creative sector. Ms. Walker was Director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs for seven years, serving simultaneously as Executive Director of the Iowa Arts Council, Administrator of the State Historical Society, and the State Historic Preservation Officer. She is a native of California and a graduate of University of Arizona.


Berta Walker is the owner of the Berta Walker Gallery in Provincetown, a gallery presenting the "History of American Art as Seen through the Eyes of Provincetown's Art Colony". Ms. Walker will be one of the participants in the "Get in a Gallery" presentation. The gallery exhibitions include Hofmann, Hawthorne, Moffett, the Modernists such as Lazzell, Knaths, Hartley, Weinrich, Maril, and many of the leading contemporary artists including Trieff, Henry, Resika, Boghosian, and emerging and mid-career artists such as Sky Power and Donald Beal. Ms. Walkers prior experience includes special events and administration at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Founding Director of Visual Arts Program at Opportunity Resources for the Arts, Founding Director of Graham Modern Gallery in New York City, and Director of Marisa del Re Gallery, New York City.


Ira Wood is an author and the founder of Leapfrog Press, a local publishing company. Mr. Wood will participate in the "Get in Print" presentation. He is the author of three novels: The Kitchen Man; Going Public; and Storm Tide with Marge Piercy. He also co-wrote So You Want to Write with Marge Piercy, an award-winning text about writing fiction and memoirs. Mr. Wood has written screenplays for Universal Pictures and his short pieces, published in many magazines, have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He also conducts popular workshops that emphasize accessing deeply personal material, overcoming the inner censor, and on how to get published in a changing publishing industry.


Performer Biographies

Geraldine Boles is a piano instructor and an accompanist. Ms. Boles will be performing during the evening reception. She teaches piano in traditional and Suzuki methods. Ms. Boles has directed the music for several productions for Falmouth Theatre Guild, Barnstable Comedy Club, and most recently Pirates of Penzance and Cabaret in Falmouth. She recently directed the musical play Sullivan & Gilbert at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. A graduate of New England Conservatory, Geraldine is a piano instructor in Suzuki Method, teaching in both her studio and the Sandwich Montessori School. She sings with the Chatham Chorale and Schola Cantorum.


Asa Bryce is a sophomore at Chatham High School. Asa will be performing during the evening reception. He is in his second year of participating in the high school sailing team and he studies classical guitar at the Cape Cod Conservatory with Joseph Scott and at the New England Conservatory with Will Riley. This summer Asa will be attending Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan for the second year. He plans on attending Cape Cod Academy next year and hopes to pursue a career in performance and teaching.


Andrea Ferreira is a Junior at Cape Cod Academy. Andrea will be performing during the evening reception. She has been flamenco dancing since she was six years old. She has been excited to share this unique dance with others through the years, and to familiarize people with the music. Andrea has been interested in dance all of her life.  She started dancing ballet when he was two years old and now studies with the Boston Ballet School. Andrea aspires to become a physician.


Robert Minshall is a real estate agent, painting contractor, an actor, and a vocalist. Mr. Minshall will be performing during the evening reception. He has been seen previously on the Cotuit Center for the Arts stage in their 2008 production of Sullivan & Gilbert as the Duke of Edinburgh, and in their 2005 production of Joyful Noise as Charles Jennens. Rob recently portrayed Captain Hook in the Falmouth Theatre Guild's spring 2009 production of Peter Pan. Some of Rob's favorite roles, all with the Falmouth Theatre Guild, include Sergeant of Police, Pirates of Penzance, spring 2008; Rooster, Annie, fall 2007; Cinderella's Prince/Wolf, Into the Woods, spring 2006; and The Beast, Beauty and the Beast, spring 2005. Rob is currently rehearsing for the part of Neville in the Falmouth Theatre Guild's production of The Secret Garden, which opens next month.


Tiago Douglas Souza Miranda is a Senior at Barnstable High School. Tiago will be performing during the evening reception. He is a dancer who has performed in school talent shows at Barnstable High School, Shelter from the Storm at Cape Cod Community College, and a benefit concert for Haiti at the Cape Cod Academy. Tiago has been dancing for six years. When he was a young boy in Brazil he was inspired by the dancing of Michael Jackson.  He plans to attend the University of Columbia in Chicago and major in the performing arts. Tiago aspires to be a professional performer, using his talents as a dancer, in addition to studying choreography and music production. He would also like to add vocals to his performances in the future.


Anna Turley is a mezzo-soprano and a recent graduate of The University of Delaware, holding a Bachelors of Music in vocal performance. Ms. Turley will be performing during the evening reception. She student directed Pirates of Penzance with UD Opera Theater, which sparked her interest in the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. As a student, she also sang under Dr. Paul Head in the international award-winning UD Chorale and worked as a vocalist with jazz chamber groups. Her major roles to date include Dorabella in Cosi fan tutti, Meg Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Jenny in Street Scene, and Anna in The King and I. In July of 2009 she was a finalist in the Duxbury Chamber Music Festival's chamber music competition. Anna also has an interest in vocal pedagogy, speech pathology and childhood music. She is currently performing in the Boston area and teaching elementary music in the Duxbury Public School System.


Hannah Van Sciver is a senior at Cape Cod Academy. Ms. Van Sciver will be performing during the evening reception. Hannah plays drums in the Cape All-Star Jazz Band, was first chair in the percussion section of the All-Cape Orchestra and has played professionally in pit bands for musicals at Barnstable High School, Falmouth Theater Guild, and the Cotuit Center for the Arts. In 2009, she earned the title of Cape Cod Teen SLAM Poetry Champion and competed against all adults to be named the CCFtA's Cape-Wide Poetry SLAM Champion. She was a 2009 Massachusetts State Finalist in the National Endowment for the Arts and The Poetry Foundation's PoetryOutLoud national recitation contest. Hannah also enjoys acting. Currently, she is performing in Proof at the Barnstable Comedy Club. Hannah will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
