The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is pleased to announce the schedule for the Third Annual Creative Collaborative Conference and Awards Reception on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa, 1225 Iyannough Road, Hyannis.

The creative community of Cape Cod will gather for a full day of presentations, panel discussions, displays, and activities to celebrate the best and brightest of the region's arts and culture, culminating in an evening awards reception.

This year's schedule includes a rare opportunity to talk with a panel of successful arts-based business owners about effective strategies to follow and pitfalls to avoid. Conference attendees are invited to attend:

Nominate Your Favorite Massachusetts Places

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod urges you to respond quickly to "1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts."

Your nominations are needed to ensure that the Cultural Treasures of Cape Cod are included!

This new cultural tourism program celebrates what is unique about our state, its communities, and its people, and stimulates cultural tourism. The program seeks to increase visitation to the state's wide range of exceptional historic sites, cultural venues, and natural landscapes.

Nominations will be considered for a final list of 1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts to be announced in May. The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) has established a web site to accept nominations from the public: www.Massvacation.com/1000greatplaces. All Great Places that are nominated must be open and available to the public. Only one nomination per person will be accepted. The nomination period will close April 1, 2010. The Commission will meet later that month to draw up a final list of 1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts, which will be announced in May.

The 1,000 Great Places Commission was created by the Legislature in 2009. It is chaired by Eric Turkington of Falmouth, a former state representative and first House Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development.

Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Announces Spring 2010 Grant Deadline
Funding Available for Artists and Cultural Organizations

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the designated local arts agency for Barnstable County, is pleased to announce its next grant cycle. Applications are now available for the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Spring grants cycle, which has a deadline of 5 pm, on Friday, March 19, 2010.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Grants Program provides cash awards to local artists and cultural organizations that are engaged in projects that help create a strong, stable, and diverse arts and culture industry on Cape Cod, and contribute positively to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region. Preference is given to specific program initiatives, particularly those enhancing the arts education of learners of all ages, and to collaborative efforts within the arts community.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod will hold a grants information workshop for interested applicants on Thursday, February 25 at 5:30 pm at the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod offices in Centerville. First time applicants are strongly urged to attend this workshop. Reservations are required by February 24.

Eventide Arts Family Theater will present You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. This production is based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a musical about the world of Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang. This 1999 revised version of Charlie Brown won two Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards.

Peter Pan and Wendy is a true play adaption by Doug Rand of J.M. Barrie's original novel. She takes care of the motherless Lost Boys but soon the Darling children are swept into Peter's battle with Captain Hook and his mostly-fearsome pirate crew.

WHTC Presents Last of the Red Hot Lovers

Women Behind Bars
Women Behind Bars, presented by Counter Productions, will open at the Julie Harris Stage in Wellfleet Harbors Actors Theater on now - February 28, Friday - Sunday at 7:30 pm.

Women Behind Bars was written by Tom Eyen and is directed by Patrick Falco. The play is a satire on B-movies of the 1950's. Mary Eleanor, an innocent duped into crime, lands in the Greenwich Village Women's House of Detention which is presided over by a massive matron with a taste for sadism and female flesh. Poor Mary Eleanor ends up hardened and cynical, but that's just the way it was in the movies.

, an exhibition on display at the Cahoon Museum of American Art, now - March 14, includes memory paintings and artworks that evoke memories, all accompanied by the artists' reminiscences and thoughts on the subject. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the artworks will be donated to Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands.

Three artists will speak in conjunction with the show with all talks beginning at 11 am.

The Cape Cod Community College Higgins Art Gallery will host an exhibition entitled East Meets West, featuring the works of Sara David Ringler, now - February 25.

An exhibition comprised of works of handmade paper, handmade books and original prints responding to Ms. Ringler's experiences living in Florence, Italy as a visiting artist and studying with a master paper maker on the island of Shikoku, Japan at his studio Kamikoya.

Prints from the Heart is an art show and sale of original prints by members of the Printmakers of Cape Cod and the Falmouth Artists Guild, now - February 28.

The prints are original works of art such as monotypes, woodcuts, etchings or lithographs, not reproductions of paintings. This show helps promote the Falmouth Art Center's two new presses, Open Studio time, and printmaking workshops.

The Sweetest Thoughts, now - March 3, opens at the Bowersock Gallery.

The Sweetest Thoughts will feature scores of artists and a broad variety of styles and mediums. It will also "take on" the topic of love - in all its guises.

There are oil works featuring swirling dancers, floating ethereal beings and strong, even harsh images of love lost. The show will feature sculptures of politically incorrect bedmates and images of love's struggles.

Creative Convergence brings together 15 established landscape plein air artists from across the United States, Mexico, Ireland, Bulgaria and Russia, who, in the fall of 2009, met in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Burgess Birds at Green Briar Nature Center

Thornton W. Burgess Society opens the 2010 season at its Green Briar Nature Center with the Burgess Birds exhibit, now - April 30.

The exhibition includes mounted bird specimens, information on how important protecting and studying birds was to Burgess and original illustrations of birds done for Burgess stories. Most of these pen-and-ink drawings by Harrison Cady have never been exhibited before and are part of a gift from Time-Warner Book Division.

Burgess Birds will be the first of six exhibits at Green Briar which pay tribute to Mr. Burgess and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the publication of his first important children's book, Old Mother West Wind.

Vetrans for Peace, Inc. Veterans for Peace Cape Cod Chapter invites submissions of poems to celebrate Peace Week, April 11 - 17. The contest is open to all Cape and Island writers. Winners will be selected from 14 categories, K - 12th grades and adults.

Robert K. Roark will give a painting demonstration at the Creative Arts Center, March 18, 10:30 am. - noon. Lunch included with ticket.

Mr. Roark, a museum recognized artist, received his formal training at the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, and the Cape Cod School of Art. He has been the recipient of a Ford Foundation Scholarship and the Kunyoshi Memorial Scholarship and has won numerous awards in both oils and pastels.

  • Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, Inc. is pleased to announce its Cape-wide Arts & Alzheimer's Initiative, a series of moderated conversations stimulated by artwork for those with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and their family caregivers. Free programs will be held several times each month in sixteen different galleries, museums and other venues beginning in January.   • Tutti Italiani is a gathering for those who love Italy, meeting the fourth Monday of each month at 7 pm. Table Francaise will gather for those who enjoy French culture and language, meeting the first Wednesday of each month at 6 pm. To celebrate the third anniversary of Table Francaise, the February gathering will be followed by a concert by chanteuse Suzan Dolabany. Conversational Italian on Saturdays, 11 am - 1 pm.
