Help Raise Money for the Arts on Cape Cod
 Open an account at TD Bank under the Affinity Membership Program and they'll make a contribution to the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.
TD Bank will make an annual contribution based on the average balance in all members' accounts, as long as the minimum number of participants have signed up to trigger the donation. Checking, Savings, Money Market, CD and IRA accounts are all included in the program.

Applications are now available for the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Spring grants cycle, which has a deadline of 5 pm, on Friday, March 19, 2010.
The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Grants Program provides cash awards to local artists and cultural organizations that are engaged in projects that help create a strong, stable, and diverse arts and culture industry on Cape Cod, and contribute positively to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.

WHTC Presents Last of the Red Hot Lovers
The Woods Hole Theater Company will perform the Tony Award nominated comedy, The Last of the Red Hot Lovers by Neil Simon. This dinner theater production, under the direction of Don Dutton, will be held at a new venue, the Holiday Inn, 291 Jones Road, Falmouth.
Performances will be held February 26, 27 with dinner at 7 pm and show at 8 pm, plus a matinee February 28, dinner at 3 pm, show at 4 pm.

Conservatory Jazz Orchestra for Youth in Concert
The Conservatory Jazz Orchestra for Youth (CJOY), lead by renowned trumpeter Tony Lujan, will perform at Highfield Hall on February 28, 3 pm. The program includes compositions by Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Jimmy Heath, Woody Shaw, Frank Strozier and Freddie Hubbard.
CJOY is comprised of young jazz musicians from various area high schools. From brass to bass they cover jazz. The concert is a benefit fundraiser for the student orchestra.

Ensemble Passacaglia Welcomes Spring with Ancient Music
Ensemble Passacaglia will present Ecco la Primavera (Here Comes Spring)!, a concert of music to celebrate the end of winter. Performances will be on February 27, 4 pm at the Church of the Messiah's Fisher House and February 28, 2 pm at the Yarmouth Friends Meeting House.
This program will feature music from across Europe and beyond. Suites by Guillaume de Machaut, Guillaume Dufay and Anthony Holborne will alternate with lute songs, Sephardic music, ancient carols and dance tunes, as well as Turkish and Egyptian pieces. Members of the group are: Jan Elliott (recorder, crumhorn); Lisa Esperson (percussion); Tom Hanna (lute); and Molly Johnston (viola da gamba).

Rebecca Parris to Perform at Cotuit Center for the Arts
The Cotuit Center for the Arts (CCftA) is proud to present Boston's First Lady of Jazz, Rebecca Parris, February 27, at 8 pm.
Ms. Parris has performed world wide with her own groups, as well as with some of jazz's greatest legends, including Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Terry Gibbs, David "Fathead" Newman, Norman Simmons. Free Screening of Everyday Struggles
A free screening of Everyday Struggles will be shown at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, February 28, 7:30 pm,
Everday Struggles is the result of the week-long Movie Team project led by Hollywood Heart that involved students from Harwich High School in all aspects of movie-making. The 15-minute film is an example of what kids can do when given the opportunity and guidance to be creative and share their stories.

Counter Productions Presents Women Behind Bars
Women Behind Bars, presented by Counter Productions, will open at the Julie Harris Stage in Wellfleet Harbors Actors Theater on now - February 28, Friday - Sunday at 7:30 pm.
Women Behind Bars was written by Tom Eyen and is directed by Patrick Falco. The play is a satire on B-movies of the 1950's. Mary Eleanor, an innocent duped into crime, lands in the Greenwich Village Women's House of Detention which is presided over by a massive matron with a taste for sadism and female flesh. Poor Mary Eleanor ends up hardened and cynical, but that's just the way it was in the movies.

Porgy & Bess: Music & Stories
In recognition of the 75th anniversary of Porgy & Bess, Cotuit Center for the Arts will present Porgy & Bess: Music & Stories, four staged concerts featuring selected arias and ensemble pieces from the famous folk opera. This will be the premier performance of this show on Cape Cod with a two piano arrangement, Porgy and Bess: Fantasy for Two Pianos, arranged by Percy Grainger, performed by Jared McMurray and Robert Wyatt, which will punctuate the individual performances. Throughout the evening, Dr. Wyatt will also present information focusing on the historical and cultural significance of the opera.

Harwich Junior Theatre presents Peter Pan and Wendy, directed by Maura Hanlon, now - March 7. Performances will take place on Fridays at 7:30 pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm.
Peter Pan and Wendy is a true play adaption by Doug Rand of J.M. Barrie's original novel. When the carefree and careless Peter Pan flies into the nursery of the Darling home, Wendy follows her instincts for adventure, bringing her little brothers along to magical Neverland. She takes care of the motherless Lost Boys but soon the Darling children are swept into Peter's battle with Captain Hook and his mostly-fearsome pirate crew.

Quilter's Tea at The Falmouth Art Center

Collections Gallery Sponsors Pet Food Collection

The Cape Cod Conservatory's Falmouth Campus will host a new art exhibition Art in Harmony: All About Animals art reception on February 26, 6 - 8 pm.
The show will feature guitarist Joseph Scott playing classical Latin American and Spanish guitar music. The theme of the art show will be All About Animals, from pets to wildlife. The exhibit continues through March 31.

Prints from the Heart at Falmouth Artists Guild
Prints from the Heart is an art show and sale of original prints by members of the Printmakers of Cape Cod and the Falmouth Artists Guild, now - February 28.

Burgess Birds at Green Briar Nature Center
Thornton W. Burgess Society opens the 2010 season at its Green Briar Nature Center with the Burgess Birds exhibit, now - April 30.
The exhibition includes mounted bird specimens, information on how important protecting and studying birds was to Burgess and original illustrations of birds done for Burgess stories. Most of these pen-and-ink drawings by Harrison Cady have never been exhibited before and are part of a gift from Time-Warner Book Division.
Burgess Birds will be the first of six exhibits at Green Briar which pay tribute to Mr. Burgess and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the publication of his first important children's book, Old Mother West Wind.

A Fundraiser for the Cape Cod Literacy Council
Phantom Book Club will host a fundraiser for the Cape Cod Literacy Council at the Riverway Lobster House, February 27, 6 - 9 pm. The evening's event features Miss Patti Page, who will perform Old Cape Cod and many of her other hit tunes. Ms. Page's memoir, This Is My Song, will be available for sale and Martin Sandle, author of over 75 titles will be on hand with his new book, Resolute.

15th Peace Week Poetry Contest Calling For Submissions

Nominate Your Favorite Massachusetts Places
 | The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod urges you to respond quickly to "1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts." Your nominations are needed to ensure that the Cultural Treasures of Cape Cod are included! This new cultural tourism program celebrates what is unique about our state, its communities, and its people, and stimulates cultural tourism. The program seeks to increase visitation to the state's wide range of exceptional historic sites, cultural venues, and natural landscapes. Nominations will be considered for a final list of 1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts to be announced in May. The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) has established a web site to accept nominations from the public: www.Massvacation.com/1000greatplaces. All Great Places that are nominated must be open and available to the public. Only one nomination per person will be accepted. The nomination period will close April 1, 2010. The Commission will meet later that month to draw up a final list of 1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts, which will be announced in May. The 1,000 Great Places Commission was created by the Legislature in 2009. Woods Hole Celebrates Black History Month
The Woods Hole Black History Month Committee celebrates the 2010 Woods Hole Black History Month with Harambee, an ethnic potluck feast February 25, 4 pm, at the Swope Center.
Everyone from every ethnicity is welcome and invited to bring their favorite potluck dish. The event will feature exotic food, multicultural arts, crafts, and music. June Monteiro, Falmouth artist and teacher will present her fashionline designs.

ArtsFalmouth Winter Gathering
ArtFalmouth will host a Winter Gathering on February 26, 6 to 8 pm, at the Cape Cod Conservatory. This is a chance to catch up, share ideas and discuss plans for the spring and summer. Learn about Arts Alive '10 and bring information on your work and activities.
Music will be performed by Joseph Scott, a classical guitarist trained at Boston Conservatory. Mr. Scott has over 20 years experience performing and teaching in the Boston to Cape Cod area.

Creative Art Center Hosts A Painting Demonstration by Robert K. Roark
 | Artful Arrangement by Robert K. Roark | Robert K. Roark will give a painting demonstration at the Creative Arts Center, March 18, 10:30 am. Lunch is included with ticket.
Mr. Roark, a museum recognized artist, received his formal training at the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, and the Cape Cod School of Art. He has been the recipient of a Ford Foundation Scholarship and the Kunyoshi Memorial Scholarship and has won numerous awards in both oils and pastels.

Events at Highfield Hall
The focus of these classes is to provide tips, techniques and shortcuts guaranteed to make you a better cook. The series is hosted by Gail Blakely, Personal Chef and Provisioner, and longtime food columnist for The Enterprise. Each class will introduce participants to local culinary experts.
- Canapés and Hors d'oeuvres, March 10, and Pastries and Soup Shots, March 31. The classes will combine both demonstrations and hands-on experience for those who so desire. All classes held on Wednesday afternoons, 2 - 4 pm. Classes includes recipes, menus, suggestions for wine and/or cocktails, and "small tastes."

CCMA Acquires Thomas Hart Benton Lithograph
 | | Island Hay by Thomas Hart Benton | On January 29, 2010, the Cape Cod Museum of Art purchased a Thomas Hart Benton lithograph, Island Hay. Thomas Hart Benton was an important realist painter of the regional school, a muralist, printmaker, teacher and writer. Island Hay will remain on exhibition for the foreseeable future.
