Sixty-Four Reasons to Look Forward to Summer on Cape Cod

Citizens Bank Summer Concert
The Citizens Bank Summer Concert& series will once again fill the summer air with music. Presented by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the series brings free, family-friendly weekly outdoor concerts to eight Cape towns:

Chatham
Dennis
Eastham
Falmouth
  Harwich
Hyannis
Mashpee
Sandwich

The concert series, which features performances by more than one hundred talented local musicians, will begin on Monday, June 28.

All concerts are free and open to the public!

Exciting Paid Summer Internships for College & High School Students

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is offering summer 2010 internship opportunities for college students or current high school seniors interested in the arts or a non-profit career. The AFCC provides an ideal environment to learn about a regional arts agency that serves artists and arts lovers, cultural organizations and those that support them.

The AFCC's high-energy environment is suited for multi-taskers dedicated to attention to detail and accuracy who want to spend a summer immersing themselves in the local art and cultural community that Cape Cod has to offer.

Interns will gain hands on experience with all aspects of projects, special events, exhibits, musical performances and the 25th annual Pops by the Sea Concert with a celebrity guest conductor. AFCC interns will gain invaluable resume experience.

Volunteer Now for Pops by the Sea!

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has opened Volunteer Registration for the 25th Anniversary TD Bank Pops by the Sea concert on Sunday, August 1 on the Hyannis Village Green. Volunteers will help set up before the concert, monitor parking lots, collect tickets, lead group tours, and much more.

Let Your Reps Know You Support an Increase in MCC Funding

The House Ways and Means budget recommendation for fiscal year 2011 was released last Wednesday. Last Friday, two amendments were filed that call for increases in the general fund appropriation for the MCC.

Debate on the House budget will commence next Monday, April 26. This week is the time to call or e-mail your own Representative, to let them know that you support the amendments filed by Representative Khan and Representative Falzone.

April Vacation Week Programs at CCMM

CCMM spring break eventsThe Cape Cod Maritime Museum invites families to their final April vacation program on April 23, 11 am - 3 pm. This is a walk-in program and are free with admission. The program is designed with various age-appropriate activities for grades K-8. Younger siblings are welcome to enjoy the museum and the program with help from parents!

Earth Celebration at Heritage Museum & Gardens

Earth CelebrationsIn honor of both Arbor Day and Earth Day, Heritage Museum & Gardens is hosting Earth Celebration events for all ages on Saturday, April 24, 10 am - 5 pm. Tour the tree collections at 11 am and 3 pm, partake in a tree scavenger hunt, sculpt with natural objects, build a self-propelled boat out of a milk carton, play a game of "recycle relay," participate in a family green-themed tour at 12:45 pm, get a sneak peek at elements from the newest feature Hidden Hollow: A Nature Discovery Center. From 11:30 am - noon and 1:30 - 2 pm, Cape Cod African Dance & Drum, including ENTRAIN's Sam Holmstock, will offer an interactive family show, with authentic West African dance, drumming and song.

Call for Artists for All Cape Cod Exhibit

All artists who wish to participate in All Cape Cod are invited to bring their artwork to Cape Cod Art Association on April 27, 9 am - 4 pm. The entry fee for each piece of artwork is $8.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members. Please bring a stamped, self addressed envelope to be notified of the status. Up to five pieces may be submitted but only two works from each artist will be accepted. Exhibit runs from April 29 -May 17. Open reception and awards will be held on April 30, 4 - 6 pm and cash prizes will be awarded.

Schoolhouse Gallery's Spring Art Competition

CCAA logoThe Schoolhouse Gallery presents its annual juried Spring Art Competition May 7 - 31, to be juried by Vicky Tomayko. The competition is open to anyone who would like to submit works. One work, no larger than 5' x 5', may be dropped off at the gallery on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, noon - 4 pm.

This competition is open to all media and processes, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, textiles, new media, electronic and interactive, installation, and video (looped on DVD, artist must provide viewer if selected)

MBL Seeks Vendors for Summer Craft Fairs

MBL
The Marine Biological Laboratory(MBL) is seeking vendorsfor two summer craft fairs it is sponsoring on July 16, and August 13, 8:30 am - 4 pm, in Waterfront Park, Water Street, Woods Hole. There is a $35 space donation for each date, payable in full with registration.

Past fairs have featured the work of fine artists and skilled artisans from surrounding communities and have included photography, jewelry, pottery, and sculpture.

Cultural Center Performances by Naia and The Dave Richardson Band

Cultural Center of Cape CodCeltic flute and harp duo Naia, in concert on April 25, 7:30 pm at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Flutist Nicole Rabata and harpist Danielle Langord have appeared throughout the US and on international stages. Both musicians are on the applied music faculty at Colby College, teaching clinics and workshops throughout New England.

The Dave Richardson Bandwill be playing at the Saturday Night Music Cafe on May 1, 8 - 10:30 pm. The Dave Richardson Band has created a special recipe for soulful, upbeat, funky music that draws on a base of authentic American Blues. Burgess Birds at Green Briar Nature Center

Thornton W. Burgess Society opens the 2010 season at its Green Briar Nature Center with the Burgess Birds exhibit, now - April 30.

The exhibition includes mounted bird specimens, information on how important protecting and studying birds was to Burgess and original illustrations of birds done for Burgess stories. Most of these pen-and-ink drawings by Harrison Cady have never been exhibited before and are part of a gift from Time-Warner Book Division.

Burgess Birds will be the first of six exhibits at Green Briar which pay tribute to Mr. Burgess and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the publication of his first important children's book, Old Mother West Wind.

Cape Cod Modern House Trust Hosts Spring Open House

The Cape Cod Modern House Trust's Kugel/Gips House open housewill be held Sunday, April 25, 10 am - 4 pm. The public is invited to tour the house and learn about what is being done to preserve it as a structure, as well as promote the rich presence of modern architecture on the Outer Cape as a cultural resource.

Designed by local modern architect Charlie Zehnder in 1970, The Kugel/Gips House in Wellfleet is the first of several significant modern houses the Cape Cod Modern House Trust hopes to restore.
