PAAM Receives Highest National Recognition

The Board of Directors and staff of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod congratulate the Provincetown Art Association and Museum for achieved accreditation from the American Association of Museums (AAM), the highest national recognition for a museum. Accreditation signifies excellence to the museum community, to governments, funders, outside agencies, and to the museum-going public. Of the nation's estimated 17,500 museums, 775 are currently accredited. PAAM is one of only 44 museums accredited in Massachusetts.

Accreditation is a rigorous process that examines all aspects of a museum's operations. To earn accreditation, a museum first must conduct a year of self-study, and then undergo a site visit by a team of peer reviewers. While the time to complete the process varies by museum, it generally takes three years.

PAAM was founded in 1914 and is dedicated to promoting and cultivating the practice and appreciation of all branches of the fine arts, to assemble and maintain in the Town of Provincetown a collection of works of art, to hold exhibitions, and to promote education of the public in the arts through forums, concerts, and similar activities. PAAM joins two of their Cape Cod colleagues, Heritage Museum & Gardens and the Sandwich Glass Museum, who previously achieved this distinguished accredation.

For more information call PAAM at 508-487-1750 or visit www.paam.org.

Titanic Visions: The Inventive and Rich Expressions of Mozart and Mahler

Rising from the Greek myth of love and tragedy, Mozart's Apollo et Hyacinthus portrays the spirited tone of young love and the soul-searching sadness of love lost. Remembered for its lyrical second movement which was prominently featured in the 1967 Swedish film, "Elvira Madigan," Mozart's Piano Concerto features piano writing that is unusually inventive and rich in fancy figuration. Pianist Adam Neiman plays with the exceptional virtuosity required for this technically demanding concerto. Sprightly tunes, waltz-like melodies and "terrifying shrieks" resound in Mahler's brilliant Symphony No. 1 (Titan).

Performances are on Saturday, May 2 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, May 3 at 3:00 pm at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center located at 744 West Main Street in Hyannis. For more information or tickets call 508-362-1111 or visit tickets.capesymphony.org.
