The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod will award grants totaling $25,216 to twenty three local cultural organizations at the Spring Grant Awards Ceremony at Provincetown Art Association and Museum on Thursday, April 29 from 6:00 pm to 8 pm.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Unveils New Passport to the Arts Tonight
The 2010/2011 Passport to the Arts, offering a 50% discount on admission to 48 Cape Cod theaters, museums, historical sites, and performances, will be launched tonight at the Spring Grant Awards Ceremony at Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
Now in its seventh year, the Passport to the Arts is a beautifully designed, souvenir-quality booklet with information about 48 participating cultural organizations. Passport holders will be able to receive a 50% discount on admission to select events at each participating venue once during the course of the year. Each member venue sets its own restrictions and rules of use, so Passport holders must call venues in advance to ensure availability.

Academy Award Winner Chris Cooper to Perform at Pops by the Sea

Pops Presents The Dream Lives On: A Portrait of the Kennedy Brothers on Cape
Academy Award-winning actor Chris Cooper will give life to the words of John, Robert, and Edward Kennedy when he joins conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra for one of the first performances of The Dream Lives On: A Portrait of the Kennedy Brothers.
This special performance, which is the centerpiece of the Boston Pops 125th anniversary season celebration, will take place on Cape Cod at the TD Bank Pops by the Sea concert on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at 5 PM on the Hyannis Village Green.
Chris Cooper is one of the most respected and well-recognized character actors of our time. He was awarded an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of 'John Laroche' in "Adaptation", co-starring Meryl Streep and Nicholas Cage and directed by Spike Jonze. Sixty-Four Reasons to Look Forward to Summer on Cape Cod

 | | The Citizens Bank Summer Concert series will once again fill the summer air with music. Presented by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the series brings free, family-friendly weekly outdoor concerts to eight Cape towns:

Dennis Hyannis
Eastham Mashpee
Falmouth Sandwich
The concert series, which features performances by more than one hundred talented local musicians, will begin on Monday, June 28. All concerts are free and open to the public!

Exciting Summer Internships for High School Students
The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is offering summer 2010 internship opportunities for current high school seniors interested in the arts or a non-profit career. The AFCC provides an ideal environment to learn about a regional arts agency that serves artists and arts lovers, cultural organizations and those that support them.
The AFCC 's high-energy environment is suited for multi-taskers dedicated to attention to detail and accuracy who want to spend a summer immersing themselves in the local art and cultural community that Cape Cod has to offer.
Interns will gain hands on experience with all aspects of projects, special events, exhibits, musical performances and the 25th annual Pops by the Sea Concert with a celebrity guest conductor. AFCC interns will gain invaluable resume experience.

Volunteer Now for Pops by the Sea!

Volunteers will help set up before the concert, monitor parking lots, collect tickets, lead group tours, and much more.

Peace Poetry Contest Reading and Awards Ceremony
Veterans for Peace will announce the winners of the Peace Poetry Contest on Saturday, May 1, 10 am - noon, at the South Congregational Church in Centerville.
Winners from kindergarten to adult who were chosen from hundreds of entries will read their poems for family, friends, teachers and the public. Guidance and commentary will be given from published poet and Veterans for Peace member Max Money. Several of the teachers who have been a vital part for many years of the Peace Poetry Contest will also be honored.

American Idol Live! 2010 tour dates have just been announced. The tour will travel across North American with 49 scheduled stops. The tour is set to start July 1 in Auburn Hills, MI, and end September 14, in Pittsburgh, PA. All top 10 finalists are set to sing on July 18 in Mansfield, MA at the Comcast Center. Siobhan's first appearance in New England is scheduled for July 13 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.

Cape Cod Conservatory Girls Chorus Performs
The Cape Cod Conservatory Girls Chorus under the direction of Janice Hannah will have their spring concert Tuesday, May 4, 5 pm at the West Barnstable campus. The a cappella chorus features girls age 8 to 12. They will sing selections of seasonal and sacred music as well as popular tunes.

Ship in a Bottle Workshop at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum
At the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, students 14 and up accompanied by one adult, will together learn the artistry of building a ship in a bottle on May 5 and 15, 10 am - noon. No experience necessary. Learn to build a model of American Corvette, specifically created for this course. A "corvette" was a small maneuverable three masted ship. Pre-registration required. All materials will be supplied.

The Schoolhouse Gallery presents its annual juried Spring Art Competition May 7 - 31, to be juried by Vicky Tomayko. The competition is open to anyone who would like to submit works. One work, no larger than 5' x 5', may be dropped off at the gallery on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, noon - 4 pm.

MBL Seeks Vendors for Summer Craft Fairs
The Marine Biological Laboratory(MBL) is seeking vendorsfor two summer craft fairs it is sponsoring on July 16, and August 13, 8:30 am - 4 pm, in Waterfront Park, Water Street, Woods Hole. There is a $35 space donation for each date, payable in full with registration.
Past fairs have featured the work of fine artists and skilled artisans from surrounding communities and have included photography, jewelry, pottery, and sculpture.

The Dave Richardson Band will be playing at the Saturday Night Music Cafe on May 1, 8 - 10:30 pm. English Musician Brian Peters Performs in
Woods Hole
 The 38th season of the Woods Hole Folk Music Society will close on Sunday, May 2, 7:30 pm with a concert of traditional and contemporary English music by Brian Peters at the Community Hall.
Brian Peters is one of the most widely known and well respected artists in the English folk music scene. He is a singer, a gifted guitarist and master of the anglo concertina and melodeon or "squeezebox." His repertoire includes many traditional songs, as well as lesser-known folk songs and contemporary pieces. Mr. Peters also plays English dance tunes, ragtime and music hall pieces, blues, rock & roll classics and original instrumentals.

Introduction to Boatbuilding at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum
Cape Cod Maritime Museum is offering an Introduction to Boatbuilding class Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 4 - May 27, 6:30 - 8:30 pm. This class explores basic lofting, layout and terminology that goes with the construction of a ten-foot skiff. The course begins with each student building a scale model in the same sequence as the construction of a full size skiff. Then the class will together construct one full size skiff in the same manner. Students do not need prior experience with boatbuilding, woodworking or tools to participate.

Franklin Gifford (1854-1936) who was a lifelong resident of Woods Hole

means for him to chronicle the history and traditions of his beloved

Tom Reyes Exhibit and Performance at Cape Cod Conservatory

Monthly Poets' Corner Open Mic Reading Featuring Melissa Tuckey
The monthly Poets' Corner Open Mic, hosted by Barry Hellman and Joe Gouveia at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, is on April 29, 7 pm. Melissa Tuckey, the featured poet, begins at around 8 pm. Melissa's chapbook, Rope as Witness, was published by Pudding House Press. Her poems have been most recently anthologized in Fire and Ink: An Anthology of Social Action Writing. Melissa is a co-founder of Split This Rock Poetry Festival and is currently writing in Provincetown.

The SheArt Network 3rd Annual Spring Art and Fine Craft Sale
The SheArt Network proudly presents its 3rd Annual Spring Art and Fine Craft Sale on Saturday May 8, 11 am - 5 pm, and Sunday May 9, noon - 5 pm at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.
