The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has opened volunteer registration for the TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert on Sunday, August 2 on the Hyannis Village Green. Volunteers will help set up before the concert, monitor parking lots, collect tickets, lead group tours, and much more.

Greg Abate - jazz saxophonist, flutist, composer, and international recording artist - will perform on May 9 at 8:00 pm at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Also performing will be Greg Wardson on piano, Rod McCaulley on acoustic bass, and Artie Cabral on drums. Abate is one of the world's most highly regarded jazz artists, who has traveled the world performing the "American Art Form" and developing his craft. Black and white photographs by Don McLaughlin will be exhibited at Marion Craine Gallery from now - May 29, with a reception on Saturday, May 9 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
Don McLaughlin, a geologist turned photographer, lives in South Orleans. For the past several years he has spent a lot of darkroom time processing his medium format negatives taken years ago. Most of these photos of Cape Cod, portraits, etc., have never been shown before. McLaughlin's book: BOLIVIA, was published in 2008 by Fields Publishing.

Priscilla Levesque of Cataumet is the featured Artist of the Month at the West Falmouth Library from now - May 9.
Priscilla paints landscapes of the Cape and Martha's Vineyard, using watercolor or casein. She does most of her work outdoors on location in order to capture the brief effects of light, weather and atmosphere. For example, she painted the accompanying image, Twilight on Old Dock Rd., in her car at the town dock in West Falmouth, working from late afternoon until dark. Later in her studio, she added final details from memory.
Priscilla's work is also displayed at Cape galleries, such as the Cataumet Art Center and Cape Gallery Framer in Falmouth.

The Bowersock Gallery will launch its formal 2009 exhibition season with a benefit exhibition Bowersock Annual Give Back Exhibition this year dedicated to Helping Our Women, (HOW), a Provincetown organization. The Harbor your Arts Artist Shanties at Hyannis Harbor/Bismore Park will open for the 2009 season on Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 am. This popular attraction provides a picturesque setting to view art made by both man and nature. Visitors to the seven harbor side shanties can enjoy photography, painting, handmade jewelry, ceramics, mosaics, scrimshaw, mariner knot work, pressed seaweed, and much more, created by local artists and artisans. Over 24 artists will occupy 6 of the artist shanties. This year, the seventh shanty is featuring Cape Cod Art Association and they will have over a dozen artists rotating in the shanty this season.

Cape Cod duo Stanley and Grimm (Nikki Engstrom fiddle and Sean Brennan guitar/vocals) will be performing with friends to celebrate their award winning CD Another Round. Ladies of Jazz, a series of oil paintings by Yarmouthport artist, Anne Ierardi, will be the featured exhibition at the Zion Union Heritage Museum from now - May 31. Ierardi painted the portraits while listening to recordings of the singer: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Alberta Hunter and others.
On May 17 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm there will be a Benefit for the Museum. Ticket includes admission, reception, multi-media presentation by the artist, and gift pack of "Jazz Ladies" note cards. The presentation begins at 4:15 pm.

The Cape Cod Conservatory's Barnstable Campus will exhibit works from the T.G.I.F. Printmakers from May 17 - June 19, with an opening reception on Sunday, May 17 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. The T.G.I.F. Printmakers are a group of professional artists who have been exploring the art of the unique print together at the Conservatory with Beverley Edwards for a good number of years. All are award winning artists whose works have been widely exhibited throughout New England, New York and beyond. Join the grand opening celebration of Abling Gallery, a new Provincetown gallery, featuring the contemporary oils of local artist, Madeliene Abling. The opening will be on Friday, May 22 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
Abling's highly textured palette knife paintings abstract reality and focus on the theme of leisure time pursuits: boats, martinis, wine, musical instruments. "My shapes are large and my colors are generally bold; I've never met a color I didn't like."

On Saturday, May 23 the Cotuit Center for the Arts and Major Productions will present Entrain's Drums For Peace, a multi-media event specifically focusing on the theme of peace, love, unity and a greener world. Opening the show will be a local Wampanoag Indian Pow Wow group.
The day will begin with an all ages family concert event, with doors opening at 3:30 pm and the show starting at 4:00 pm. A second concert for adults 21+ will begin at 9:00 pm. Advance tickets are strongly recommended.
Entrain's energetic percussion-driven sound will captivate the audience with an explosive 2 hours of drum ensemble pieces with rhythms and instruments from all over the world, as well as the full band playing tunes from their extensive catalog. The use of projected screen imaging will enhance the show and help to create a visual spectacle.

Wellfleet Preservation Hall will hold an auction of birdhouses on Sunday, May 24 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, to raise funds to further the renovation of the Hall. A talk will also be given by Cape Cod Times and NPR Bird Expert, Vern Laux.
Artists, artisans, builders, community members and woodworkers are creating unique hand-painted and crafted designs for birdhouses using recycled materials including wood, tin and slate that were once part of the Wellfleet Preservation Hall, the former Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Well-known Cape Cod Times columnist and popular Bird News commentator on NPR Mindy Todd's The Point, Vern Laux will be the Auctioneer and Special Guest Speaker. Laux, who has been birding the Cape & Islands for 40 years and is the resident naturalist for the Linda Loring Nature Foundation on Nantucket will give a short talk on Birds of the Cape & Islands.

The First Annual Yarmouth Youth Street Art Festival, a project of the Yarmouth Rotary Foundation, will be held on Sunday, May 24 (rain day May 25) from 12:00 - 5:00 pm. Admission to the festival is free. There is no cost for participating artists.
Funded in part by a grant from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the festival will invite groups of children from kindergarten through college to create original chalk art on the street and parking lot of the Cultural Center, while a group of high school and college students paint their creations on four junk cars, and children from kindergarten through fifth grade paint murals on a large van loaned for the occasion.
Demonstrations by professional artists including street artist Jason Robert LeClair from Providence, music, and refreshments. The festival is non-competitive. Local artists like Cristina Reverdy and Jackie Reeves will act as mentors to groups of student artists. There is currently no other youth street art festival in the mid-Cape area.
Teachers are encouraged to make this festival an art project in which their students can be involved. Local businesses and individuals will be engaged by Yarmouth Rotarians to sponsor one hundred or more 4x4 or 8x8 square foot "pavement canvases" and the vehicles on which the kids will make art.

The Norman Mailer Writers Colony and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) are pleased to announce an exhibit, reception and dinner with the world-renowned architect, Pritzker Laureate Richard Meier for the benefit of both non-profit organizations.
On June 6, Richard Meier will discuss his work during a cocktail reception at PAAM, followed by a private dinner at the Norman Mailer home, both events supported by Taschen Books and catered by Victor Depoalo and Mike Fennelly of Victor's Restaurant. PAAM will recognize Richard Meier for his continuing contribution to world architecture and Salvatore Scibona will receive the Mailer Award for Exceptional Writing. Also, from May 29 - June 14, the public exhibit of Mr. Meier's sketches, drawings, collages and scale models will open at the museum.

The 16th Annual Cape Cod Maritime Days, a celebration of the Cape's rich maritime history, runs from now - May 31. There is an exciting line-up of over 75 events for the 2009 Maritime Days, from lighthouse & walking tours, nautical art exhibits and maritime lectures to boat-building exhibits, kayak excursions and the Chatham Maritime Festival.

The works of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod Signature Members 2009 will be on exhibition at the Cape Cod Museum of Art now - June 14. The Signature Members are artists whose award-winning skills, national and regional experience and creative vision are such that their work represents the Society.
Signature Members pass through a jurying process and are entitled to use the organizations initials after their names. Less than 50 of the group's 250-plus members have qualified for this distinction.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council is offering a group of workshops on Financial Management in Times of Economic Stress in May and June. These workshops will help organizations develop a productive approach to the financial challenges they face.
Workshops will be led by Technical Development Corporation (TDC), a Boston-based business consulting firm serving the nonprofit sector with extensive experience in arts and culture. Each workshop will be small and focused on the needs and issues of the attending organizations. Dates, times, and locations will be announced.

The New England Foundation for the Arts is pleased to announce new funding opportunities as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). Signed on February 17, 2009, the ARRA recognizes the important role the arts will play in the economic recovery of the nation, and through stimulus funding awarded to the National Endowment for the Arts, provides NEFA approximately $330,000 to distribute in support of preserving arts jobs. New England-based arts organizations who qualify may also apply directly to the NEA or their state arts agency for ARRA funding; however, applicants may accept funding from only one source.
NEFA's ARTS JOBS program will offer support in three areas:
Salary Support
Grants to New England arts presenters for salary support for positions that are in jeopardy of being eliminated.
Artist Fee Support
Grants to New England arts presenters for artist fees for previously planned engagements that may be canceled due to the economic downturn.
Fee Support for Public Art Projects
Grants to community-based organizations in New England to support artist and/or contractual fees for implementation of previously planned public art projects
