Grants Recipients - Fall 2007


Barnstable Band Boosters:
to fund the acquisition of percussion line instruments for the Barnstable High School music programs as part of a one-year marketing trial period for a new drum manufacturer.   $2,000

Cape Cod Opera:
to fund the Opera’s high school outreach program, which is free for students, offering an introduction to the apprenticeship program.   $2,000

Cape Cod Writer’s Center:
to support the New Plays / New Playwrights Competition, encouraging the writing and production of  new full-length plays by Cape and Islands writers, with the winning entry presented as a staged reading during Eventide Arts’ 2007-2008 season.   $1,500

Cultural Center of Cape Cod: to collaborate with the Duffy Health Center and capeAbilities to offer pARTnership in the Arts, where participants learn to overcome some of their challenges through creative activity in the written, visual, and performing arts.   $1,500

Fine Arts Work Center: to produce Kids Arts Partners in Education (KAPE), a curriculum-based after-school workshop program in visual arts and creative writing designed to enhance the education of public school students on the Outer Cape.   $2,500

Harwich Historical Society:
to develop an education program for elementary school students focusing on the experiences of Harwich native Sarah Weekes Foster, a child who went to sea aboard her father’s merchant vessel in the mid-nineteenth century.   $550

Harwich Junior Theatre: to provide professional staff development and curriculum development for the Living Independently Forever (LIFE) Drama Program and for learning-challenged children enrolled in creative drama programs.   $2,500

Sarah Holl: to support the installation of a lighting system for classroom and exhibition space at ARTSPACE / Sarah Holl Studio.   $2,000

Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District:
to support Artscape Thursdays, a program offering patrons a discount at participating restaurants after visiting galleries, to build a stronger arts community and to foster economic growth on Hyannis Main Street.   $2,000

Mullen-Hall Elementary School: to present Kids Sharing Cultures, enabling 500 students from kindergarten through fourth grade to experience the cultural traditions of Tanzania, Africa through visual arts, music and movement.   $1,950

Orleans Historical Society: to develop a week-long exhibit, Orleans – Our Children’s Heritage, featuring the artwork of Orleans Elementary School fifth graders including descriptions of their work, and an opening night reception featuring performances by Nauset Regional Middle School band and orchestra.   $250

Outer Cape Chorale: to provide professional musicians for six free concerts over the course of the year, serving an average of 1,000 to 1,200 people per performance.   $1,500

Provincetown Art Association and Museum: to develop the Fall Art Education Program, a twelve-week course for middle-school students to improve their skills,  knowledge, and understanding of the arts by participating in the process of making, evaluating, and curating works of art.   $2,000

Pat Sakellis: to expand the art camp for children, developed in conjunction with the Cultural Center of Cape Cod,  includes visual art, drama, photography and jewelry making taught by artists specializing in each discipline.   $2,000

Sight Loss Services: to support Learning to Draw and Paint After Sight Loss, a collaborative program with the Brooks Free Library in Harwich, by offering instruction to those who have lost vision in drawing and painting by using alternate techniques and supplies.   $2,000

Town of Barnstable, Growth Management Department: to promote and cultivate the Harbor Your Arts initiative to further develop downtown Hyannis as a cultural destination by educating the community and attracting visitors through increased signage and marketing efforts.   $2,000

Veterans for Peace: to present the 13th Annual Peace Poetry Contest, open to all children and adults of Cape Cod, intended to promote peaceful and non-violent solutions to world conflict.   $675

Bernadette Waystack: to support a year-long survey of the history of the Provincetown Art Colony and its contemporary connections to eighth grade art students on the Lower Cape, utilizing a multi-disciplinary, cross-curriculum approach, exposing students to their cultural legacy as residents of the region.   $970
