Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Awards
$30,000 in Grants
Funding Distributed to Local Artists and Cultural Organizations



The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod awarded a total of $30,395 in grants last night to eighteen local artists and cultural organizations at a special reception at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. 

The grants distributed during the Fall 2007 cycle brings the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s total 2007 grant distribution to $60,395.00, benefiting 37 artists, cultural organizations, and arts educators across Cape Cod.  Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grants are awarded to support projects that help create a strong, stable, and diverse cultural community on Cape Cod and that contribute to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.  
 
The Fall 2007 Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grant recipients are:

Previous Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grant recipients performed brief selections from their funded projects at the reception.  The Chatham Chorale, the Sturgis Public Charter School music program, and the Living Arts Institute were featured.

Maggie Bossi, Director of the Chatham Chorale

Maggie Bossi, Director of the Chatham Chorale.  The Chatham Chorale received a grant in the spring of 2007 to commission a special work, Why I Wake Early, by composer Ronald Perera, with words by Cape Cod poet Mary Oliver, to commemorate Ms. Bossi's 20th year as the Chorale's conductor.

Living Arts Institute

Members of the Living Arts Institute performed a selection from their dance and movement repertoire.

Djembes!

Students from the Sturgis Public Charter School performed on special African drums, or djembes, which were purchased with a grant from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.

Barnstable Band Boosters, $2,000, to purchase used percussion line instruments for B.H.S. music programs 

Lysa Benton, $1,950, to fund an arts education program at Mullen-Hall Elementary School, introducing the cultural traditions of Tanzania, Africa

Cape Cod Opera, $2,500, to produce high school operatic outreach programs 

Cape Cod Writers' Center, $1,500, to support a series of workshops and readings for local playwrights preparing for a competition and festival at Eventide Arts 

Cultural Center of Cape Cod, $1,500, to compensate the artist-faculty members of the pARTnerships Project, a collaborative art project for the disabled or homeless

Fine Arts Work Center, $2,500, to support the Kids Art Partners in Education (KAPE) program which provides after-school workshops in visual arts and creative writing

Harwich Historical Society, $550, to develop an educational program for elementary students focusing on 19th century sea voyage from a child's perspective 

Harwich Junior Theatre, $2,500, for professional staff development and curriculum development for learning-challenged students 

Sarah Holl, $2,000, to install lighting for teaching & exhibition space at ART SPACE/Sarah Holl Studio at the Shirley Blair Flynn Center for the Creative Arts 

Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, $2,000, to expand and promote the Artscape Thursdays program in Hyannis at 10 galleries representing over 400 artists

Orleans Historical Society, $250, to produce an art exhibit by Orleans Elementary School 5th graders depicting local historical events and places

Outer Cape Chorale, $1,500, to provide professional musicians at six concerts for a community chorus with 110 members 

Provincetown Art Association and Museum, $2,000, to develop a comprehensive 12-week art education program for middle-school students who will make, evaluate, and curate works of art
 
Pat Sakellis, $2,000, to present a five-week educational camp for children at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, including art, photography, drama, and jewelry making
 
Sight Loss Services, $2,000, to provide classes for visually-impaired students to learn to draw and paint after sight loss

Town of Barnstable, $2,000, to increase awareness of the Harbor Your Arts programs, particularly through increased signage, print ads and brochures

Veterans for Peace, $675, to support the 13th annual Peace Poetry contest, reading and awards ceremony

Bernadette Waystack, $970, to support a year-long survey of the history of the Provincetown Art Colony and its contemporary connections to young art students on the Lower Cape through a multi-disciplinary, cross-curriculum approach.

Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grants are awarded to support projects that help create a strong, stable, and diverse cultural community on Cape Cod, and which contribute to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region. Grants are awarded twice a year.
