Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Awards $27,500 in Grants
Funding Distributed to Local Artists and Cultural Organizations
Centerville MA, May 23, 2006 - The Board of Directors of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2006 Spring Grant Awards. Twenty-one local artists and arts and cultural organizations will receive a total of $27,500 in grants at a special reception on Monday, May 30 at the Coonamesset Inn in Falmouth.
Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grants are awarded to support projects that help create a strong, stable, and diverse cultural community on Cape Cod, and which contribute to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.
The Spring 2006 Grant Recipients are:
Liz Argo, $1,250 for the completion of a documentary film, “Summer Stock Story: the Silver Age of Summer Stock” which highlights the heritage of the Orleans Arena Theatre;
ArtsFalmouth, Inc., $1,000 for the rental of tents for the 2006 ArtsAlive! Festival in Falmouth;
Bourne Society for Historic Preservation, $600 for guided Trolley Rides narrated by local historical experts;
Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, $800 for the presentations of the Italian film “Allegro non Troppo” and a performance by the Borromeo String Quartet;
Cape Cod Children’s Museum, $500 for hands-on educational workshops for parents and toddlers that will foster children’s understanding and appreciation of art;
Cape Cod Community College, $1,000 for an artist-in-residence program with Provincetown artist Bill Evaul culminating in an exhibition at the Higgins Art Gallery and workshops with local high school students;
Cape Cod Repertory Theater, $1,500 for the East coast premiere of the play, “Tibet Through the Red Box,” based on the award-winning children’s book;
Cape Cod Writer’s Center, $2,000 for “New Plays/New Playwrights,” a series of workshops and readings for Cape and Islands playwrights;
Cotuit Center for the Arts, $1,200 for a series of free Shakespearean acting workshops;
Rick Fleury, $1,250 for the development of “Stone Soup,” a multi-media discussion series about the artists community on Cape Cod;
Candy Fox, $2,000 for a series of memoir writing classes and the development of a one-hour documentary film about older women artists from Cape Cod;
Heritage Museums & Gardens, $1,000 for a retrospective exhibition of 20th century sailor-painter Charles Robert Patterson;
Fine Arts Work Center, $2,500 for the development of an after school visual arts, poetry, and creative writing workshop taught by Fine Arts Work Center fellows;
Steven T. Oney, $1,500 for the 19th edition of the Captain Underhill mysteries, part of Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater 24th season;
Osterville Historical Society, $750 for “Kids in the Museum,” an enrichment program for Barnstable county 5th grade students;
Nancy Pettibone, $2,500 to support a series of affordable classes to teach day-care providers and pre-school teachers how to incorporate art into their everyday programs;
Pilgrim Monument & Museum, $1,000 for educational family programs involving local artists and Native Americans.
Provincetown Art Association and Museum, $1,000 for a scholarship program for summer art courses at PAAM’s Museum School;
Christopher Seufert, $1,650 for archival film restoration and development of a public archival film website;
Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, $1,500 for the Provincetown Dance Festival featuring performances, panel discussions, and workshops;
Woods Hole Theatre Company, $1,000 for new fire-proof stage curtain system at the Woods Hole Community Hall.
The following distinguished community leaders served as reviewers for the Spring 2006 Grants Review Committee: Allison Czuchra, TD Banknorth; James Cook, Four Points Sheraton Hyannis Resort; Hia Dubin, AFCC Board of Directors; Alfie Glover, artist; Sarah Holl, Artist; Bruce Hammett, The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank; Ellen LeBow, artist; Elizabeth Mumford, artist; Nancy Manoog, Funding Services Trust; Mark Scala, Community Newspapers Inc.; DeWayne Stallings, artist; Margaret G. Van Sciver, Whitebriar Financial Corporation; Julie Waite, artist; and David Willard, The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank.
