Arts Conference Taps Creative Economy Experts as Keynote Speakers
Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Hosts Regional Conference to Spark Local Creative Economy
Centerville, MA, October 12, 2006 - The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC), the designated local arts agency for Barnstable County, has announced that a trio of key participants in the acclaimed Berkshire Creative Economy Project will be the keynote speakers for the upcoming Making Art, Making a Living conference on Saturday, November 4 at Cape Cod Community College.
"The Berkshire Creative Economy Project: Genesis, approach, findings, strategies, and lessons learned" will be presented by Michael Kane, Managing Partner with Mt. Auburn Associates, a Cambridge-based consulting firm that specializes in economic development strategy, joined by Ellen Spear, President of Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, and Laurie Norton Moffatt, CEO and Director of the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Mt. Auburn Associates worked extensively with Spear and Moffatt and other regional leaders in the Berkshire cultural economy to rejuvenate the Northern Tier region of Massachusetts by enriching the cultural assets in the northwest corner of the state and encouraging collaboration between stakeholders across economic sectors. Mt. Auburn Associates is also engaged in creative economy projects in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and post-Katrina Lousiana.
“These three partners have worked together to position their region as a world-class cultural destination,” said Lisa Hergenrother, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. “This keynote dovetails perfectly with the ongoing work in our region to develop Cape Cod’s cultural economy and position ourselves on the world stage as a cultural destination.”
In addition to Keynote Speaker Michael Kane, experts from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, Coastal Community Capital, and the Lower Cape Cod Development Council will present intensive, hands-on workshops throughout the day.
Featured workshops at the Making Art, Making a Living Conference will include grant writing, copyright and intellectual property law, contracts and negotiation, marketing and promotion for visual and performing artists, audience development for cultural organizations, spotlights on collaborative projects from throughout Cape Cod, and a special cultural organization roundtable.
Pre-registration is required for Making Art, Making a Living and space is filling up fast.
