Centerville, MA, January 16, 2007 - The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod have partnered to create a new cultural portal website to promote Cape Cod’s arts, culture, and heritage. The grant, part of a new grant program for Regional Tourism Councils from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, will be matched by funds from both organizations.

This innovative new site will allow members of the arts, culture, and tourism communities to promote their own goods and services, collaborate with other providers across the region, and conduct e-commerce in a simple, user-friendly environment, regardless of technical computer experience.

“The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has always offered innovative collaborative marketing to the artists and cultural organizations of Cape Cod,” said Lisa Hergenrother. “The new Cultural Explorer website marks a significant expansion of these programs, and will position Cape Cod’s artists and cultural organizations on the world stage under a common banner.”

The Cape Cod Cultural Explorer website will showcase cultural events across Cape Cod to attract off-Cape visitors and boost the local creative economy.

Residents and visitors from around the world will be able to find local artists, buy local art, explore Cape Cod’s cultural institutions and history, and make travel plans all in one online location.

“The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is excited to partner with the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod to promote arts and culture in the region,” said Wendy Northcross, CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

The Cape Cod Cultural Explorer website will be launched in the spring of 2007 to coincide with the Cape’s annual Maritime Days event, which has been newly expanded into a month-long, region-wide celebration of Cape Cod’s proud maritime history.

Local museums, theaters, art galleries, and individual artists and artisans will be able to highlight their own events and promotions throughout the month.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will create similar, themed events throughout the calendar year to help promote and showcase the area’s vibrant year-round creative economy.
