About Me

Dave Parish studied fine art and graphic design at The School of Visual Arts (SVA) and completed his BA degree at The New School For Social Research in New York City.

Enamored by natural vistas as well as the tamed beauty of well-designed landscapes, Dave studied English Landscape design in Great Britain at the age of 19 and later, worked for Mädderlake, one of New York City’s premier design firms, creating and maintaining luxurious terraces, gardens and greenhouses for prestigious clients such as Calvin Klein and Yoko Ono.

During this time, while a student at SVA, Dave was mentored and encouraged by renowned artists Nachume Miller and John Gundelfinger. Dave’s paintings at this time, products of his immediate environment, both visually and conceptually, were large urban abstracts and were shown at Ariel Gallery in Manhattan’s Soho District.

After years of working in various roles, from graphic designer to marketing consultant for companies, Dave felt the need to pursue his artistic passions and to reconnect to a more natural environment which led him to relocate permanently to Wellfleet, MA. The resulting body of work, a collection of oil paintings that reflect the unique beauty of Cape Cod, its marshes, dune vistas, marinas and beaches.

Dave is a member of PAAM, The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and The Cape Cod Foundation.

Style of Work

My current paintings reflect the mood and imagery of coastal living. They are the result of my appreciation of living by the sea; of nature and sometimes unintentional or unexpected beauty. I like to highlight the aspects of the scene into something more profound and personal, to say, “notice that particular flash of light, the patina of a surface, an impending mood whether dark, colorful or whimsical , or perhaps an interesting juxtaposition of shapes.
