About Our Organization
The oldest professional non-profit theater on Cape Cod.
Our Mission
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre (WHAT) is the summer theatre that doesn’t do summer theatre. We consistently seek out the most interesting and provocative new works and then recruit artists with the skill, imagination, and vision to realize those works in production.
WHAT operates with two venues, the original 90-seat Harbor Stage located on Mayo Beach, next to the Town Pier, and the new, 220-seat Julie Harris Stage, located next to the Wellfleet Post Office. This facility has transformed WHAT into the premiere, year-round performing arts facility on the Outer Cape. Concerts, films, live satellite broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera, forums, lectures, children’s theater, and art exhibits are just a few of the programs offered in this year-round arts center.
Bus parking, handicap access and public restrooms are available.
Our History
In continuous operation since 1985, WHAT continues to present the most interesting, new, live theatre to be found anywhere on Cape Cod. Chosen by the Boston Globe as among the top ten theatres in the region.
