About Me

The Henry Beston Society’s mission statement states that its goal “is to honor Henry Beston by stimulating interest in and promoting education about his life, works and philosophy — with emphasis on his time spent on Cape Cod in Massachusetts — and his place in his world and ours, by coordinating research on his life and writings, by acting as an archive for material relevant to Henry Beston and by advocating for the preservation of the memory and historical importance of The Outermost House.”

The Beston Society, an all-volunteer organization, has partnered with several other Cape Cod organizations for lectures, performances and exhibits, published literature, begun work on a documentary film, has long-range plans to open a museum, complete with a replica of Beston’s “Fo’castle,” and has a large archival collection of material related to Henry Beston and The Outermost House.

The Beston Society's Don WIlding, far right in the back, with members of Elaine Aschettino's 11th grade honors English class at Chatham High School. Aschettino's students are reading Beston's "The Outermost House" as part of the "Sense of Place" curriculum. Wilding presented his lecture, "Henry Beston's Cape Cod: Inspiration for a National Seashore," featuring the DVD of pre-production footage from the Beston Society's documentary film project. An actual window from Henry Beston's Outermost House was on display at the Henry Beston Society booth at Eastham's Windmill Weekend festivities in September 2011. Students from Elaine Aschettino's junior Honors English class at Chatham High School were visited by Beston Society executive director Don Wilding in October 2011. Wilding presented his Outermost House lecture and showed early production footage from the Beston Society documentary film, "Henry Beston's Cape Cod: Inspiration for a National Seashore. Cape Cod actor Chris Kolb, portraying Henry Beston in the Beston Society's documentary film production, "Henry Beston's Cape Cod: Inspiration for a National Seashore," checks out some footage just shot by director Christopher Seufert of Mooncusser Films in Chatham.
