Our Mission
To bring music to the schools of Cape Cod with a hands on approach. 10 of us come into the classroom or auditorium and demonstrate a multitude of musical instruments for children in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Our goal is to inspire them, up close and in a very casual, sometimes whimsical fashion, to become musicians, to take up the learning of an instrument.
Our History
Allegretto has been going into the schools since 1997; we began as a small chamber group of 4 women and evolved into a 10 piece group of men and women with a common goal; to bring music back to schools/ after so many cuts have been made in this area in the children’s education. This program was inspired by the Musical Instrument Demonstrations that are held annually at Snow Library in Orleans.
Our Services and Programs
We provide hour long programs for groups of elementary school children. usually we prefer to interact with no more than three classroom groups at a time; we give each child an opportunity at the end of our program to come up and try out the instruments and ask questions.
we are partially supported by grants from local Town Cultural Councils
Fees Charged
We ask for $40.00 per musician per hour.
We have an “Allegretto Fund” through The Cape Cod Foundation where donors can give to support our work; this helps support our programs. We only ask the schools for a donation of any size; our programs our supported by private donations and Cape Cod Town Cultural Council grants. We send out fundraising letters twice a year asking for support from the community. Some Massachusetts Cultural Council Grants come our way from various towns, but most of our financial support is from private donors who support music and art in the schools!
Hours/Schedule
We are available for bookings!

Allegretto hosts the Annual Musical Instrument Demonstration at Snow Library in Orleans. Every year in early February/ from 10:30 to Noon. 25 musicians volunteer their expertise to the community in this free program sponsored by the Friends of Snow Library.
