About Our Organization

Based in Provincetown, we are a non-auditioning chorus of about 140 singers. We present a series of three concerts twice a year – in December and May. We perform in Provincetown’s Town Hall, and Orleans’ Nauset Regional Middle school most frequently. We have a 20-member a cappella sub-group called The OCC Chamber Singers who performs all over the Cape from June until October.

Our Mission

THE OUTER CAPE CHORALE is made up of over 140 singers who travel to Provincetown from all over Cape Cod for the sheer joy of singing. This is a non-auditioning community chorus that chooses its soloists from within its ranks. And since part of their Mission is to bring their joy of singing to as many people as possible, they make all of their concerts free of admission.

Our History

THE OUTER CAPE CHORALE was founded in February 2002 by its conductor Jon Arterton and several enthusiastic friends. It has quickly grown to a group of over a hundred singers who travel to Provincetown from all over Cape Cod to sing. They made their debut to a capacity crowd in Provincetown’s Town Hall singing Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes. Since then they have presented a program of American music called Mostly Gershwin, a concert version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Iolanthe, a concert of songs from around the world, a concert of Great Opera Choruses, a concert of music from Broadway, and an immensely popular concert of music by the Beatles. They’ve also performed a wide variety of classical works including Mozart’s Requiem and Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bach’s Cantata 4, Part One of Haydn’s Creation and Mass in the Time of War, John Rutter’s Magnificat, Gabriel Faure’s Requiem, Franz Schubert’s Mass in G, Karl Jenkins’s The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, Ariel Ramirez’s Misa Criolla, and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. The Chamber Singers are a small group drawn from the larger group that perform a wide variety of musical styles, from classical to popular, all a cappella. They sing year-round and have performed many times in Provincetown’s Town Hall and all over the Outer Cape. They have twice opened for The Cape Symphony Orchestra at their annual Pops Concert in Orleans, and they’ve supported many causes with their singing.

Fees Charged

All of their concerts are free.

Hours/Schedule

Six major concerts a year – four in Provincetown and two in Orleans. Numerous appearances around the Cape by The Chamber Singers.
