Celebrating its 85th season, the Cape Playhouse is proud to be America’s Oldest Professional Summer Theatre – celebrating today’s theater in an historic venue.

For each season of its 85 summers, the Playhouse has endeavored to bring the best performers, favorite and familiar plays, comedies, mysteries and musicals to the audiences of Cape Cod.

The ultimate goal is to guarantee quality, professional entertainment in the form of great theatre.

Our History

Take a 19th century Cape meetinghouse, an extraordinary history, and more than eighty seasons of top-notch professional theatre, and it’s easy to see why the Cape Playhouse is one of the most famous summer theatres in the country. Truly “America’s Oldest Professional Summer Theatre,” the Cape Playhouse combines the best Broadway comedies, musicals, mysteries, and dramas with unforgettable performances from the nation’s finest actors – from legends such as Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, and Lana Turner to some of today’s most beloved film, stage and television stars – since 1927. The Cape Cod Center for the Arts also offers its wildly popular Theatre for Children, delighting kids (and their parents!) with music, magic, science, juggling, puppetry, and balloon art. Hours/Schedule

Evening performances Monday through Saturday; Matinees Wednesday and some Thursday and Saturday afternoons. On Friday and Thursday mornings, the Cape Cod Center for the Arts offers Theatre for Children, a terrific way to introduce young people to the wonder and magic of live theatre designed especially for them.
