Write Out Cape Cod Inspired by Creative Conversations

Summer may be the busiest time of year on the Cape, but ask a local what their favorite season is and many will undoubtedly say, “second summer.”

It’s a little quieter, a little less hectic, but the weather is still perfect for getting outdoors and exploring the region’s natural beauty. It’s under this backdrop that the Barnstable Land Trust is launching a new initiative, Write Out Cape Cod, that encourages the public – educators, students, families, friends, community members, and visitors – to step outside and observe, reflect, write, and share stories about the world around them.

The program was inspired by the Arts Foundation’s Creative Conversation series which kicked off in March, bringing together individuals working in the arts with individuals working in conservation to explore opportunities for cross-sector collaboration.

Write Out Cape Cod, which runs from October 11th through October 25th, embodies that spirit, with a variety of free events, including a poetry safari, a walk n’ write, and words by the water, that combine creativity with nature.

“Creative expression helps us understand ourselves, our communities, and the places we call home,” Arts Foundation Executive Director Julie Wake said. “Write Out Cape Cod expands that conversation by inviting people to experience the Cape not just as a beautiful destination, but as a place filled with stories, memories, questions, and perspectives that are inspired by the natural spaces and places around us.”
