The Gates of Purgatory is a feature-length documentary about Provincetown, told through the performers, workers, artists, and longtime residents whose lives intersect at the historic Gifford House during the 2025 season.

Through observational filmmaking, interviews, and archival material, the film explores what draws people from all walks of life to Provincetown and the freedom they find there. The project aims to preserve the stories of those shaping Provincetown’s queer culture while examining the fragility of a community that has offered generations something they had lost along the way, or never had in the first place.
