Arts Advocacy
The Access Program at the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC) is designed to ensure that every child and family on Cape Cod can experience the joy, creativity, and transformative power of the arts—regardless of income, zip code, or circumstance. Whether it’s a child’s first time at a theater, a scholarship for dance lessons, or a community-based arts program serving youth in need, the Access Program opens the door to meaningful cultural opportunities across our region.
When we speak up for the arts, we inspire change.
The arts are not just vital to our communities—they're a powerful driver of Massachusetts’ economy and quality of life. By advocating for the arts, we work to ensure cultural professionals are valued, funded, and supported—and that the creative economy continues to thrive across Cape Cod and beyond.
According to the 2024 Massachusetts Cultural Asset Inventory:
There are over 15,000 cultural organizations and programs across the Commonwealth.
The cultural sector employs 112,000+ people, representing nearly 3% of the state’s workforce.
The median income for cultural workers is $49,182, which is below the Massachusetts living wage of $58,011.
Income disparities exist based on race, ethnicity, gender, disability, and immigration status, signaling the need for greater equity in support and funding.
The arts contribute to economic development, education, community well-being, and a strong sense of place.
