The follow-up to Writing About Your Work, and necessary because we speak differently than we write. This session prepares you for conversations with collectors and curators, and for the small conversations that happen everywhere else. Alyson will share why she doesn’t believe in elevator pitches and what you should use instead.
We’ll work on how to introduce yourself and your work with intention, how to talk about your work in different settings without sounding rehearsed, and how to handle the moments you might stumble through. Peer practice is built into the session so you can try language out loud in a safe group.
You’ll leave with a framework for talking about your work that adapts across situations, practical tools for handling compliments, questions, and unexpected moments, and initial practice speaking about your work out loud.
Preparation: come with any questions you find hard to answer about your work, and be ready to talk briefly about a current piece or body of work.
Wednesday, February 17, 2027, 5:30 to 7 PM on Zoom. Free for Arts Foundation members, $15 for non-members.
